Wedding Invitation Consultation: What to Expect at Violet Invitations

One of my favorite moments in an invitation consultation is when a couple picks up a sample and says, “This feels like us.” It might be the texture of a cotton paper, the way gold foil catches the light, or an envelope liner in a color they hadn’t considered. Seeing those details together in person makes it so much easier to picture what your guests will open.

At Violet Invitations, we spend 90 minutes with you in our Ronkonkoma studio or virtual. We look through real samples, compare papers and printing styles, and narrow down the details of your wedding invitation suite with your budget in mind.

We start before you arrive

Before your appointment, we’ll ask you to share a little about your wedding vision and color palette so we can pull samples for you. A few screenshots, a photo of your venue, a fabric swatch, or pictures of invitations you’re drawn to are all helpful. If you like the colors in one invitation and the lettering in another, send us both. Those little details give us a place to start.

You’ll get to touch the papers and compare printing styles

We begin with materials and printing because they shape how your invitation looks and feels. You’ll be able to hold different paper weights, compare textures and finishes, and see how the same color can look different depending on the paper.

We’ll also walk you through physical samples of our printing options. You can run your fingers over the impression of letterpress, see how foil stamping catches the light, feel the raised ink of thermography, and look at how digital printing captures details in artwork like watercolor florals. It’s often much easier to make a choice once you’ve seen the options side by side.

We’ll build your suite around what matters most to you

As you find samples you love, we’ll talk about which pieces you’d like to include and how they fit into your budget. Maybe you want to put more of your budget toward a letterpress invitation and use digital printing for your details card. Or maybe the moment you’re most excited about is when guests open the envelope and see a custom liner.

We’ll lay out options like envelope liners, wax seals, ribbons, and belly bands alongside your paper and print choices. Seeing everything together helps you decide which finishing touches feel right for your suite.

Then we get into the design details

Once we’ve narrowed down the materials and printing, we’ll look at paper colors, fonts, artwork, and wording. We can talk through how formal you want the invitation to feel, how to word the host line, and which information belongs on a separate details card. Those decisions give us the direction we need to create your first set of design proofs.
